Smock'd Rib Gauntlets

Size: for medium hands (for bigger hands, increase your needle size)

Materials:
size 6 dpns
worsted weight yarn (I used what I had left over from a Caron One Pound skien); amount: prob about 3-5 oz
extra needle or cable needle

Pattern:
Rnd 1,2,3 - *K3, P3* around.
Rnd 4 - With yarn in back, slip 9sts to you extra needle, wrap working yarn around base of the nine stst, counter clockwise 3 times. Ending w/ yarn in front. Slip sts from extra needle to your right hand needle, P3, and wrap the next 9sts as before. Then continue in P3, K3 rib to end of Rnd.
Rnd 5,6,7 - *K3, P3* around.
Rnd 8 - K3, P3, slip next nine to extra needle and wrap as Rnd 4. Then continue in P3, K3 rib to end of Rnd.

Left Hand:
CO 36sts. Knit in K3, P3 rib for 1.5". Now start Pattern. When you've repeated the Pattern twice (or until you get to your thumb), then start knitting back and forth instead of in the round. This will leave a space for your thumb. Continue knitting back and forth until you have made 1.5 repeats. Now start knitting in the round agian w/ the K3, P3 rib until it's where you would like it to be. Mine was to my knuckles. BO.

Right Hand:
Same as above, except you do a P3, K3 rib. Meaning start w/ P3, instead of K3 in the beginning of the round. This way you should end up w/ the end of row on the left side where you'd put your thumb space. This also means you'll be knitting your 'smocking pattern' at the end of the row, instead of in the beginning.

If you forget to start w/ the P3, K3, and start w/ the K3, P3 instead. Not a problem just keep going until you get to the row where you start knitting back & forth for the thumb space. Instead of starting it at the end of the row, you'll start the back & forth after you've completed the pattern (aka after the first 9sts). Hope that makes sense. :)
